Thiruvananthapuram: The roll out of MEDISEP, an insurance scheme providing cashless medical care for State employees and pensioners, is likely to be delayed due to glitches in collating information. The scheme has been slated for a January launch.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan made it clear that he stands firm on the controversy over the appointment of university vice chancellor.

Thiruvananthapuram: Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Planning and Economic Affairs Teeka Ram Meena has been given the additional charge as the Chairman of Civil Supplies Corporation. The current chairman and Managing Director P M Ali Asgar Pasha was re-appointed as Agricultural secretary.

 

Marayur: The price of cabbage has skyrocketed at a time when tomato price is at Rs 120 per kilogram. In an auction held at Udumalai market on Saturday, cabbage was sold for Rs 60, while the cost was at Rs 30 last week.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has become the state with second highest Covid death toll in India. According to the government statistics, a total of 42,579 people died of Covid or post-Covid ailments in the state.

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has constituted a seven-member joint committee to study the impact of blasting in various stone quarry sites in Kerala with nonel detonation technology at distances of 50 m, 75 m, 100 m, 125 m, 150 m, 200 m and 250 m.

Kottayam: A woman and her 15-year-old daughter have been arrested by the Kerala police for killing a newborn baby in Kanjirappally of Kottayam district. The woman, who lives at Edakkunnam, has told the police that she decided to kill her sixth child, a three-day-old boy, due to financial crisis and fearing societal ridicule.

Thiruvananthapuram: A local gangster was hacked to death by rivals, who chopped off a foot and threw it on the roadside at Pothencode here on Saturday.The victim, Sudheesh, a native of Kalloor, died at the Medical College Hospital.

Andhra Pradesh detected its first case of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 on Sunday. The variant was detected in a 34-year-old traveller from Ireland. The patient is asymptomatic and tested negative for the coronavirus in an RT-PCR test conducted on Saturday.

In Tamil Naduโ€™s Salem district, a statue of BR Ambedkar was vandalised on Saturday night. In protest, the locals blocked the Salem-Bengaluru National Highway. The police have registered a case.
